ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ 1. ਮੇਜਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨੀ ਤੇ ਨੋਟ ਲਿਖੋ ?
ਉੱਤਰ - ਮੇਜਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਭਾਰਤ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹਾਕੀ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਸੀ । ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਨੋਖੀ ਖੇਡ ਸ਼ੈਲੀ ਸਦਕਾ ਭਾਰਤ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਚਮਕਾਇਆ । ਉਸ ਨੇ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪੱਧਰ ' ਤੇ ਕਈ ਸੋਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਦੇ ਤਗਮੇ ਜਿੱਤੇ ।
ਮੇਜਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 29 ਅਗਸਤ , 1905 ਈ : ਨੂੰ ਅਲਾਹਾਬਾਦ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਸਮੇਸਵਰ ਦੱਤ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਹੋਇਆ । ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਭਰਾ ਰੂਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੀ ਹਾਕੀ ਦੇ ਉੱਘੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਸਨ । ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਕੀ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਮਿਲੀ । ਇਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਜੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਆਰਮੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ । ਮੇਜਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਸੋਲਾਂ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਰਤੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ । ਉੱਥੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਸੂਬੇਦਾਰ ਮੇਜਰ ਤਿਵਾੜੀ ਨੇ ਹਾਕੀ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਖੇਡਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਆ । ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਦੀ ਡਿਊਟੀ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਦੇਰ ਰਾਤ ਤੱਕ ਚੰਨ ਦੀ ਰੋਸ਼ਨੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰੀ ਲਗਨ ਨਾਲ ਹਾਕੀ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ । ਉਹ 1922 ਈ : ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ 1926 ਈ : ਤੱਕ ਸੈਨਾ ਦੇ ਖੇਡ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਗ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ । ਦਿੱਲੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਇੱਕ ਸਲਾਨਾ ਖੇਡ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਗਿਆ । ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸ਼ਾ ਨੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦੇ ਹੌਸਲੇ ਬੁਲੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ । ਉਸ ਨੇ 13 ਮਈ 1926 ਈ : ਨੂੰ ਨਿਊਜ਼ੀਲੈਂਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਮੈਚ ਖੇਡਿਆ ।
ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਹਾਲੈਂਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦੀ ਹਾਕੀ ਸਟਿਕ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ ਵੇਖੀ ਗਈ ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ ਇਸ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਟਿੱਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਚੁੰਬਕ ਜਿਹੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਾ ਵਿੱਟ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਵੇ । ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦਾ ਗੇਂਦ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੜਾ ਕਾਬੂ ਸੀ । ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗੇਂਦ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਕੀ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ।ਹਿੱਟਲਰ ਨੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਜਰਮਨੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਖੇਡਣ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡਾ ਅਹੁਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਲਾਲਚ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਪਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਭਾਰਤ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਖੇਡਣਾ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੌਰਵ ਸਮਝਿਆ
ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੇਜਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦੀ ਅਨੋਖੀ ਖੇਡ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਭਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ 1956 ਈ : ਵਿੱਚ ਪਦਮ - ਭੂਸ਼ਣ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ | ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਉਲੰਪਿਕ ਐਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਤਾਬਦੀ ਦਾ ਸਰਵੋਤਮ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਐਲਾਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ । ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਦਿਨ ਬਤੌਰ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਸਪੋਰਟਸ ਡੇ ਪਰੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਧੂਮ - ਧਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਮੇਜਰ ਨੇ ਹਾਕੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਈ ਮੀਲ-ਪੱਥਰ ਗੱਡੇ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਖੇਡ ਕੈਰੀਅਰ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਭਗ 1000 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਗੋਲ਼ ਕੀਤੇ। 400 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਅੰਤਰਾਸਟਰੀ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਦੇਸ਼ਾ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਕੀਤੇ। ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਮੇ-ਸਮੇ ਤੇ ਮੇਜਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਉ ਫੌਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਰੱਕੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਰਹੀ।

ਉੱਤਰ -ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੇਜਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦੀ ਅਨੋਖੀ ਖੇਡ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਭਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ 1956 ਈ : ਵਿੱਚ ਪਦਮ - ਭੂਸ਼ਣ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ | ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਉਲੰਪਿਕ ਐਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਤਾਬਦੀ ਦਾ ਸਰਵੋਤਮ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਐਲਾਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ । ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਦਿਨ ਬਤੌਰ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਸਪੋਰਟਸ ਡੇ ਪਰੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਧੂਮ - ਧਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਭਾਰਤੀ ਡਾਕ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਕ ਡਾਕ ਟਿਕਟ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਮੇਜਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਦਿੱਲ੍ਹੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸਟੇਡੀਅਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੇ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਆਪ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਖੇਡ ਦਿਵਸ ਦੇ ਤੋਰ ਤੇ ਮਨਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ

1932 ਈ : ਵਿੱਚ ਲਾਸ ਏਂਜਲਸ ਉਲੰਪਿਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਟੀਮ ਨੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ । ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਨੇ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਫਾਰਵਰਡ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਹਿਮ - ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾਈ । ਇਹਨਾਂਉਲੰਪਿਕ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਫ਼ਾਈਨਲ ਮੈਚ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ । ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੀ ਟੀਮ ਨੂੰ 24-1 ਗੋਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਾਇਆ । ਇਹਨਾਂ 24 ਗੋਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ 8 ਗੋਲ ਇਕੱਲੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੇ | ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਸ਼ਰਮਨਾਕ ਹਾਰ ਤੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ ਨੇ ਛਾਪਿਆ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਹਾਕੀ ਟੀਮ ਤਾਂ ਪੂਰਬ ਤੋਂ ਆਇਆ ਤੂਫ਼ਾਨ ਸੀ । ਇਹਨਾਂ ਉਲੰਪਿਕ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਟੀਮ ਨੇ ਕੁੱਲ 262 ਗੋਲ ਕੀਤੇ।ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ 101 ਗੋਲ ਇਕੱਲੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਨੇ ਦਾਗੇ । ਇਹਨਾਂ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਮੇਜਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚੋਟੀ ਦੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ।
ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦਾ ਬੱਤ ਆਸਟਰੇਲੀਆ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿਆਨਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।ਇਸ ਬੁੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਿਆਨ ਚੰਦ ਦੇ ਚਾਰ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਾਰ ਹਾਕੀਆਂ ਫੜੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ । ਇਹ ਬੁੱਤ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਨੌਖੀ ਖੇਡ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਹੈ।

Question 1. Write a note on the biography of Major Dhyan Chand?
Answer: Major Dhyan Chand was a famous hockey player of India. He made India famous on the world stage due to his unique style of play. He won many gold and silver medals at the international level in the field of sports.
Major Dhyan Chand was born on August 29, 1905 in Allahabad to father Sameswar Dutt. Dhyan Chand's father and elder brother Roop Singh were also prominent hockey players. Thus Dhyan Chand inherited the game of hockey. His father served in the British Indian Army. Major Dhyan Chand enlisted in the army as a soldier at the age of sixteen. There he was persuaded to play hockey by Major Tewari, a governor. Dhyan Chand used to practice hockey with full dedication in the moonlight from evening till late night after doing army duty. He participated in army sports competitions from 1922 to 1926. Dhyan Chand's performance was highly praised in an annual sports competition held in Delhi. This praise lifted Dhyan Chand's spirits. He played his first international match in New Zealand on 13 May 1926.
Once in the Netherlands, Dhyan Chand's hockey stick was broken and it was seen that this player did not put anything like a magnet in his stick. In fact, Dhyan Chand had great control over the ball. His ball was no different from his rock. Hitler offered Dhyan Chand to play for Germany and also offered him a higher position in the army but Dhyan Chand considered it his pride to play for his country India.
Major Dhyan Chand was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1956 by the Government of India for his outstanding sporting talent. He was declared the best athlete of the century by the Indian Olympic Association. Dhyan Chand's birthday is celebrated with much fanfare in India beyond National Sports Day.
Major has achieved many milestones in hockey and scored more than 1000 goals in his playing career. Against more than 400 international countries. Due to which from time to time Major Dhyan Chand continued to be promoted in the Army.

He was declared the best athlete of the century by the Indian Olympic Association. Dhyan Chand's birthday is celebrated with much fanfare in India beyond National Sports Day. The Indian Postal Department issued a postage stamp in his memory. Thus the International Stadium at Delhi was built in his name in the memory of Major Dhyan Chand. The Government of India celebrates its birthday as National Sports Day

In 1932, the Indian team participated in the Los Angeles Olympics. Dhyan Chand played an important role as a center forward. The final match in these Olympic Games was between USA and India. In which India defeated USA 24-1. Out of these 24 goals, 8 goals were scored by Dhyan Chand alone After this embarrassing defeat of the United States, an American newspaper published that the Indian hockey team was a storm from the East. During these Olympic Games Indian team scored a total of 262 goals out of which 101 goals were scored by Dhyan Chand alone. After these games, Major Dhyan Chand became one of the top players in the world.
The statue of Dhyan Chand is located in Vienna, Australia. In this statue Dhyan Chand is holding four hockey sticks in his four hands. This statue symbolizes his unique game.
